An older suburb along the railway

Canley Vale has been settled a long time. Its first public school opened in 1884, the station sits on the Main Southern line, and Westacott Cottage on Railway Parade is still standing as an arts and crafts centre.

The housing reflects that long history. There are older cottages close to the station, post-war brick houses through the middle of the suburb, and newer townhouse and duplex development filling in the gaps.

Creek corridors and leaf load

Several of the local parks sit along Prospect Creek and Orphan School Creek. Those corridors carry mature trees, and mature trees drop into gutters.

A word on older terracotta
